Leighton House was commissioned by the Leighton Art Centre in 2013 so that we may have a work in our collection that captures the three important pillars of the Leighton's vision. Using a technique called Camera Obscura, artist Colin Smith was able to combine history, art and landscape in one beautiful interior shot. The work was featured as the title piece for the show "Made for the Place" as exhibit hosted by Nickle Galleries which featured artwork that spanned a 100 years of Art significant to the Leighton Art Centre's history. Colin Smith is a first place winner of the Cenovus Energy Art Competition, and you can find his work in the Alberta foundation for the Arts and Cenovus Energy collections.
All proceeds from the sale of Leighton House will go towards the development of LAC Exhibitions and Programming.
